Conservation International is an American non-profit based in Virginia, US. Their work focuses on science, policy and partnership with businesses, governments and communities.

The concept for the 2018 annual report centers around the idea of What If’. What if nature reached its fullest potential as a climate solution? What if nature and people could thrive in the same place, forever? What if we could spur innovations in science and finance that accelerate conservation everywhere? What if we stand together and dramatically increase progress for the future?

These 4 questions organizes the content of the report into 4 different sections – climate, oceans, innovation and the future.

The design is inspired by traditional field guide notebooks, which help scientists and nature enthusiasts record their research and findings. With the cover resembling the minimalist brown cover of such notebooks, the layout is an ode to a scientist’s thoughts and scribbles. The text and images interspersed with large infographics along with grid-like paper gives the reader a layering effect.
