OddFish

ODDFISH

Collaborators: Photographer’s Name

Although several species of the animal kingdom communicate with each other through singing, only whales, birds, monkeys and elephants are capable of concert-like performances. Whales are known to have the most sophisticated communication systems in the animal kingdom, which is why the Oddfish logomark is that of a whale. We purposely did not specify it to the humpback whale, we kept the icon pretty generic.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Born from equal parts passion and need, Oddfish was created to offer high-quality music devices and wearables at an affordable price. The brand’s lifestyle products speaks to the young urban professionals in the Indian subcontinent. The audience values well-crafted and intuitive products at an affordable price range, products that fit their on-the-move lifestyle.

The box below is an example of how OddPods P2 will look like. With a non-existent budget, we chose to keep the photography extremely simple; these photographs are head-on shots. The most important features have been illustrated in an iconographic format that has been placed at the lower half of the box.

The image below provides a breakdown of the packaging.

The box below is an example of the brand’s headphones will look like. The idea was to keep it quite similar to the earphones to keep with the brand’s consistency. The photograph used in the packaging is a placeholder, sourced from an unknown account on Pinterest.

With music, we can bring to life things that otherwise cannot be expressed. Music can raise awareness, bring people to tears, be provocative, spark laughter or anger, be an escape, bring comfort and joy or just be inspiring.

The icons below is the iconographic style that is consistent throughout the OddFish brand: a white icon in the middle of a grey circle, with text below.

User Manuals
A product’s User Manuals or Guides are usually very long, with an overload of information, with the font size extremely small and practically illegible. We wanted to make sure that Oddfish’ user guides were just the opposite of that – quick and super easy to read. When one buys a new piece of technology, we are usually quite impatient, and want to start using it as soon as possible! User guides should not be a barrier to start using the product, it should be a reading aid.

The user guide was designed in an accordion fold and printed on a mat-finish 80 gsm paper with 10 panels on either side. The categories it covered were Compatibility, Usage, Operating Instructions, Troubleshooting, etc

Merchandise
As part of the brand merch, 25 taglines were conceived, out of which 10 taglines were finalized, which have been marked in green. Since Oddfish was a startup, the client naturally did not want to spend too much money on merch before officially launching the brand. The idea was to create a MVP before going into merch and swag. Additionally, brand merch is often just thrown out by users, adding to the environmental problems.

OTHER EXPLORATIONS

Other names were also explored such as Nix, Oddio and Kite. Below are some of the explorations

A dozen or so icons of whales were explored. It was important to get the mood of the whale correctly!
